Jungle Disk is an online backup tool that uses Amazon S3 for storage, after the initial backup it only transfers the parts of the file that have changed (similar to Rsync). Which is handy for minimising your network bandwidth and data transfer costs! I guess you could call it “Cloud Backup” I prefer remote backup, but i’m old skool 
Worth noting JD Server can also be used to backup Mac & Windows boxes, however I am using Jungle Disk to backup Debian, Ubuntu & CentOS servers.
Until now you needed to use the GUI version of Jungle Disk meaning you could only use JD on servers running X Windows, this has now changed as the guys at JD offer a product called “Jungle Disk Server”. This works by installing a “Jungle Disk Management Console” on your desktop machine (Linux, Mac & Windows version supported). Then on each of your servers you install “Jungle Disk Server”, they provide .rpm’s & .deb packages but you still need to create an xml file in /etc/jungledisk/ which contains your license number.
Once this is done, you simply load up the JD Management Console and select the server you want to manage the back up for, configure the new disk, I created a new disk for each server I backed up, then you select the time you want the backup to run and finally the directories you wish to be backed up on your servers!
After I had configured the above I started my backup for each server straight away, as I knew the initial backup was going to take some time!
Costs
JD Server costs $5 per server, this gives you a free 10GB a month storage per server, if you go over 10GB it’s charged at Amazon S3 US price which is $0.15 per GB-Month.
Conclusion
So far I am happy, fully automated offsite backup with centralised management for an incredible price! I have used the original JD for some time and experienced no problems, hopefully the Server edition will be no exception!
